Diseases
When you hear the word “diseases” what do you think of? You
probably think diseases are a bad thing, right? But there is more to diseases just
being plain “bad”. I will help clarify your thoughts about diseases.
First off, what is a disease? A disease can be defined
and/or explained in many different ways. But I think the best definition is: a
disease is a medical condition that inflicts pain, dysfunctions and death. It
shows signs and symptoms, and is usually caused by some means. Diseases can be classified
by symptoms, causes, or the way it was caused. There are four main types of
diseases: infectious diseases, deficiency diseases, genetic diseases and physiological
diseases.
Infectious diseases are diseases that can spread from one
thing to another. They can spread from hand-to-hand, mouth-to-mouth, and even
from animals to human. Deficiency diseases are caused by lack of or too much
nutrients. An example of this disease is type 2 diabetes, a disease that lowers
your insulin, causing high blood sugar levels. Genetic diseases are diseases
that come from mutations in your DNA. There usually come from your genes passed
on from your parents. And last but not least, physiological diseases are caused
by an organ or an area in your body malfunctioning. An example of a physiological
disease is a heart-attack. A disease that is caused by blocked arteries in your
hart, causing your heart to fail it’s job.
There are lots of diseases, but there are also lots of ways
to avoid diseases. One main way is to keep your body healthy and strong. You
can do this by getting enough (but not too much) nutrients, exercising,
drinking water, and sleeping. Also make sure to avoid eating too much greasy
foods, smoking, drinking, and going on drugs. They can cause more diseases. You
can also maintain health by having good relationships and being more confident
about yourself. This may or may not completely avoid diseases, but it makes you
feel great about yourself, therefore making you feel great physically too.
Seeing this has taught me and maybe you too that diseases
may be a bad thing, but there is a lot more to it then you think. Yet, we still
haven’t uncovered all the mysteries about diseases. Maybe on day you will find
those answers we are all been looking for.
